Terri Swiatek - New Ad Club Board Member!
We'd like to congratulate our very own Marketing Designer, Terri Swiatek, on her recent election to the Board of Directors of the Advertising Club of Buffalo, the local chapter of the American Advertising Federation. As a Corporate member of the Ad Club, Algonquin has been a longtime supporter of the Club's mission to promote and foster interaction among marketing and communication professionals in the WNY area and we're excited to see what the next two years hold for both Terri and the Club!
ALA Coffee & Connections - IT Roundtable
Algonquin is pleased to announce our participation in "Coffee and Connections - An IT/Computer Roundtable" in conjunction with the Buffalo Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA).
Being held from 11am - 2pm at the Buffalo Niagara Enterprise offices on Tuesday, October 18th, the event will offer ALA members the chance to use Algonquin's IT team as a sounding board for new ideas and a resource for advice or questions they may need answered. If you or someone in your organization is a member of ALA, we encourage you to attend this informative event!
Inkwell Studios Print
We recently commissioned a print, featuring Algonquin Studios and the Brisbane Building, the beautiful home of our Buffalo office, from Michael Gelen at Inkwell Studios. The print now hangs in a place of honor in our conference room and we couldn't be happier with the final product! Stop by and see it for yourself next time you're in the neighborhood!

Buffalo Soccer Club Update
Buffalo Soccer Club is proud to recognize Nicole Caver for making the varsity soccer team at Hutch Tech High School. Nicole is the first athlete from BSC who has tried out and made her school's varsity team. Nicole joined BSC in 2010 and played for our U12 girls' travel team. At 13, Nicole was too old to play during the 2011 season but she attended practices and games in order to learn more about soccer as an observer. She was a consistent leader and her maturity helped guide her teammates through both seasons. Nicole is hopeful that she'll be able to play travel soccer in 2012 and plans to take the referee's course this November. We are very proud of Nicole and her success!
BSC is also excited to announce that it will be holding its first-ever "Books are a Ball!" event at True Bethel Baptist Church on Thursday, October 6th from 5:30-7:30pm. Working in conjunction with Jumpstart's Read for the Record and Read to Succeed Buffalo, the event will include reading, activities, and some fun play with the UB Women's Soccer Team. This is our first time participating in the Read for the Record program, which is open to children ages 2-8, and we're excited to see it succeed. If you're interested in bringing your child please let Anna-Lesa know as soon as possible so she can save a space for you!

Trivia
Q.We really seem to like the name "Steve" here at Algonquin. How many Steves currently work here (bonus points if you can tell us their last names)?
Last month's trivia question was a tough one; we didn't have a winner! The answers were "Mike Spencer" and "Bill Stewart." Good luck with this month's question!
Be the first to e-mail the correct answer to this month's trivia question to Terri and you'll receive a spiffy new Algonquin Studios polo. Trivia contest is open to all clients, employees, and recipients of this newsletter.

Interview with Rashaan McGrath, PC/Network Technician
AS: How long have you been working at Algonquin Studios? RM: Almost a year and a half.
AS: Tell us about your education/previous employment background. RM: I've been in IT for over 10 years now, working for the NYS Attorney General's office, Newsweek, and the NYC Dept. of Education. I've also been to quite a few schools, as well. They include RIT, NYC College of Technology and Western Governor's University. I currently hold an AAS in Computer Information Systems and am a couple of classes away from my Bachelor's in Information Technology.
AS: What project(s) are you currently working on for Algonquin Studios? What project have you enjoyed most during your employment here? RM: I'm in the process of learning the ropes of support for ABC/Amega, and am playing a role in the upgrade of their network infrastructure. I must say that my most rewarding experience has been turning around SuccessWare ASP support. It took awhile to get things running smoothly but we have a great relationship with the client and, along the way, I've picked up many skills that I didn't possess when we started.
AS: What's your favorite aspect of working at Algonquin or working on the project(s) you're currently involved in? RM: I love the sense of community at Algonquin. It feels less like a company and more like an extended family.
AS: What do you do when you're not helping clients? RM: I try my best to keep up with my three boys, wife and dog and try to get enough rest each night to make it back to work the next day! I'm also a gadget head and I love life, sports, and learning new things. And I love Brooklyn!
AS: Tell us something about yourself that might surprise your co-workers or our clients. RM: I'll ride my bike in any weather above 25 degrees. It used to be 18 degrees but the effects of hypothermia aren't so great. Oh, and it's not "pop" it's "soda." Sorry!
