City of Buffalo

One of the first steps in the Mayor's e-Government Initiative is to make city government more responsive to its residents. Algonquin Studios has helped fulfill this goal by designing a City web site that engages the community, providing residents and businesses easy access to city services. Residents are able to pay parking tickets, the garbage user fee, and soon city permits and licenses online.

Algonquin Studios and the City of Buffalo worked together to develop the City web site in order to provide residents greater access to government, while lowering the costs of doing business for the City. Algonquin is always meeting with commissioners from each City department to better understand how the web site can improve customer service. A committee was created to advise the City on the look and feel of the web initiative, ensuring all voices were represented in the face of the site to its citizens and the world. The site was designed with all users in mind, with the focus on creating a site that is attractive, useable and accessible.

The City web site uses QuantumCMS (Algonquin's Content Management System) to separate the look and feel of the site from the content. QuantumCMS allows the City to maintain the web site in-house in a timely and cost-effective manner. Delegated content authoring allows staff members from each city department to make changes appropriate to their section of the new web site through an easy-to-use web interface.
