Home » About » Community Initiatives » Algonquin Sports for Kids Names Program Director for Buffalo Soccer Club Algonquin Sports for Kids Names Program Director for Buffalo Soccer ClubAlgonquin Sports for Kids is proud to announce the appointment of Anna-Lesa Calvert to the position of Program Director of the Buffalo Soccer Club. A lifelong soccer player, Ms. Calvert brings a history of talent and dedication, to both the game of soccer and the WNY community, to her new role. As a member of the prestigious D'Feeters Soccer Club in Dallas, Texas, she won the North Texas State Championship and was a finalist in the Region III Championships, as well as several other top tournaments nation-wide. After her club career, she joined the University of Buffalo women's soccer team where she was four year starter in net. She was a captain for the team her senior year and earned MAC accolades, being placed on the All-MAC Academic team two years. Ms. Calvert was also an NCAA Sportsmanship Award winner and an East Region Academic Scholar- Honorable Mention. Along with her career at the University at Buffalo, she was a member of the Rochester Ravens semi-pro women's soccer team for two years. Ms. Calvert holds a USFF National "D" license and has been coaching in the Western New York area for several years. "While playing soccer for me at the University at Buffalo, Anna-Lesa demonstrated the leadership qualities you look for in an employee and manager. She took initiative, cared about her teammates beyond soccer, and was always accountable for her own actions" said Algonquin Sports for Kids' Executive Director, Tom Garigen. "She was a student leader off the field as well, leading the first ever Care Wears program, which collected and distributed clothing to families in need. Her coaching education and experience combined with her work in not-for-profits made her the perfect fit for Algonquin Sports and the Buffalo Soccer Club." To her new role as Program Director, Ms. Calvert brings with her the experience she gained during her time as Special Events Coordinator for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Community Director for the March of Dimes. While at these not-for-profit organizations, Ms. Calvert proved herself to be a motivated relationship builder and results-driven event executor and fund raiser. These skills are sure to help her as she continues to expand the reach and success of the Buffalo Soccer Club. |
