Akron Bugle Web Site Receives National Award

The Akron Bugle received three national awards during a United Methodist Association of Communicators banquet on Friday, October 31.

Marilyn and Ken Kasperek, Timothy Finucane, and Karlyn Kasperek received an Award of Excellence for Secular Media, the top award in an area with print, electronic, and Internet entries from universities, secular news organizations, hospitals, social service groups, and other entities not part of The United Methodist Church global, national, and regional agencies.

The Award of Excellence is for www.akronbugle.com, the recently launched website of the Akron Bugle. Judges look at editorial content, design, quality of photographs, usefulness to the consumer, accomplishment of stated goals, and other criteria. "How many people in your community would be excited to receive local news as soon as it happens? Thanks to Ken and Marilyn Kasperek, Timothy Finucane and Karlyn Kasperek, it is happening in Akron, New York in a manner which is bright, colorful and easy to navigate!" judges said.

www.akronbugle.com also earned Best of Division - Internet. Ken and Marilyn Kasperek earned a Certificate of Merit - General Excellence in Print Communication for the Akron Bugle. In awarding Certificates of Merit, judges look at editorial content, layout and design, and use of photos and illustrative artwork.

Akron Bugle publishers, Ken and Marilyn Kasperek, provide content and development goals for www.akronbugle.com. Mr. Finucane, a Senior Programmer with Algonquin Studios in Buffalo, developed the site and content management system with 24 hour breaking news and discussion capabilities. He provides designs for many of the ads and also serves as Webmaster. Karlyn Kasperek, project facilitator, works with the entire team to coordinate processes necessary to reach the site's goals.

Over 400 contest entries from around the United States, representing print, electronic, radio, and internet communication were judged, with Certificates of Merit, Best in Division, and Awards of Excellence awarded.
