In December 2001, Algonquin Studios and E-Merge Strategies completed a merger between the two different companies with different products and targeted markets. Algonquin Studios had developed the QuantumCMS content management system, which was designed to allow the distribution of web content authoring to a company's entire staff, and E-Merge Strategies had released a localization workflow software package called Transmerge in early 2001. Once the paperwork was complete, the two companies had to bring together their different business models as well as their different software products. The merger of these two systems parallels what is going on in the overall Web development market ? content management and localization are being intertwined as a total multilingual content management solution. The article details the development approach Algonquin Studios has taken to merge QuantumCMS and Transmerge into one comprehensive multilingual content management solution. David Thiemecke, Algonquin's Chief Technology Officer, is the principal architect of QuantumCMS, designing its implementation from the ground up. His technical expertise provides the article with some real-world technical hurdles and plans to surmount them. Gregory Norton, Algonquin's VP of Sales, joined Algonquin Studios with the merger of Algonquin and E-Merge Strategies, bringing Transmerge, their localization tool, with him. His experience in managing translation workflows is integral to bringing Transmerge into the QuantumCMS workflow. Adrian Roselli, Algonquin's VP of Interactive Media, has worked on the user interface to QuantumCMS, and handles much of the XML integration with HTML templates. Feel free to read an abstract of the article, where you will find a link to download a PDF version of the article as well.
