salesnewsThe 2011 Annual ALA Conference

Members of Algonquin's Sales & Marketing and IT teams recently attended the Association of Legal Administrators' annual conference in Orlando, Florida. Designed to provide its attendees with the chance to meet with business partners showcasing the latest in practice management tools, resources and services, the show was a fantastic opportunity to present our Concierge IT Consulting services and Electronic Invoice Presentment and Payment solution to ALA members. It was our first time at an ALA conference and the feedback and attendee interaction were so great, we're already looking forward to exhibiting again next year!

Interview with Colleen Ross, Corporate Communications ManagerInterview

AS: How long have you been working at Algonquin Studios?

CR: I've been here for almost a year and a half.

AS: Tell us about your education/previous employment background.

CR:  I have a BA in Communication and a certificate in Public Relations,  from the University at Buffalo. My employment history is vast and varied - from bank teller and line cook to law firm receptionist and newspaper copy editor. I spent 5 years at a digital media company, primarily as the director of their in-house creative and editorial department, and for the two years before I joined Algonquin Studios, I was the director of customer relations at Big Bear, one of Algonquin's sister companies.

AS: What kinds of projects do you work on here at Algonquin?

CR: I work with the rest of our Sales and Marketing department to create our marketing collateral - things like sell sheets, brochures, and trade show materials - and write/edit many of our other ongoing communication vehicles including emails, press releases, case studies, web site content and these monthly Round Table newsletters!I also contribute to similar efforts for our sister companies: SWRemote, Big Bear and Algonquin Sports for Kids.

AS: What's your favorite aspect of working at Algonquin Studios?

CR: I enjoy the collaborative environment; I'm a marketing person who has to work with developers, designers and even soccer coaches in order to create collateral. I also love that, every day, I get to work with people who have expertise and interests that are different from mine so I'm constantly learning from my coworkers. It helps keep things challenging and interesting.

AS:  What do you do when you're not collaborating with the people at Algonquin?

CR:
I love to travel and, like a lot of people who spend their days working with words, I'm an avid reader. I'm a tutor for Literacy Volunteers of Buffalo & Erie County and I like to consider myself a amateur glazier (which really means I mess around with a glass grinder and soldering iron, pretending I'm the next Louis Comfort Tiffany).

AS: Tell us something about yourself that might surprise your co-workers or our clients.

CR: Most of the people I work with everyday already know this but, I'm kind of a technophobe. I prefer bound books over e-readers, phone calls over text messages, snail mail over email, and press releases over tweets. I'm not sure how I keep ending up with jobs at tech companies!
